A first year to remember…

Wow… I can’t believe this year has come and gone. My artoo has evolved from a bunch of blue-prints to a fully functional astromech droid. I thought I would just post a slideshow of this years hi and low points. No, I havent stopped working on him. At present I’m doing the finishing touches on the periscope. Those pictures and video’s will be posted after the coming weekend. The only hint I will give about the periscope is that I took a step back and used an unorthidox solution with the lift mechanisim aas well as a few ideas borrowed from Calvin and Chris. Last public appearance this year…

I guess everyone how has an artoo (and a job) usually pays their work a visit at least once or twice. I’m no different, lol. This Thursday there was a little gathering at work to bid farewell to a co-worker (Petra) whom is moving on to new challenges and endeavors. As a special treat we thought we would let my artoo give her a gift in a special way.  It was cool and a kind of a fitting way to end this intensive working year.

A little humorous but true footnote, as most of you know I work at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden and that there are alot of students and researchers here. I unfortunately couldn’t film their reactions. But, one student did comment that artoo got more attention today than any visiting Nobel Prize winner…. I guess that’s a good thing

CloneWars Dvd has landed…

Yes, finally the CloneWars Dvd has landed in Sweden. We mush have been the last country to have the release, lol. Anyway, Warner DVD had arranged this release event at 2 of Stockholms largest shopping centre’s this past weekend. I and the 501st Nordic Garisson were there. It was a very cool event in many ways. Because it was a very big christmas shopping weekend you can imagine there were a lot of people there… around 5-6,000 each day. It was so packed on both days I just parked artoo at key locations and let people come get their pics. In the youtube video artoo was just standing around for the most part. I had no desire to try and move him around with all those people there. And, in case anyone is wonderring why the dome is not moving so much, there’s no reason at all. I wasnt aware that artoo was being filmed at the time and other times I was filming and well…I only have 2 hands. Otherwise I would have done some artoo-moonwaking, lol.

new gear for my dome…

Today my long awaited order arrived. Its actually a very simple plastic ring but has a very important function. Its a gear that makes the dome spinning run smoothly without slipping. It took only a few minutes to install but WOW…what a difference. I was kind of amazed to see that not many builders use it. I guess we all find different solutions. Anyway as you can se from the video it works like a charm.
