just finishing up some last minute things…

30 10 2008

As you all know I started this crazy project last year because I wanted to be the first to make an artoo to show at a major Sci Fi Convention in Sweden. Well, the time has come. this weekend is the big moment (but not the last). No Kenny Baker there this time but oh well. Anyway, I have a few “..what if butterflies” but I think I have everything covered ;)

After the Con I wil go into detail about how I solved different aspects of my build as well as materials used

Its been a long journey but there he is. I have some small details to paint and attach but its looking great and actually works. For those artoo builders that are curious.. yes, its the new polystyrene dome with a great paint job… ;)

YIPPY, IT WORKS!!!!!

26 10 2008

My sabertooth component arrived yesterday and I had just finish much of that paint work i mentioned earlier. So, I decided to work on the remote controlled movement before bedtime. and after a few shakey hours trying to get the connection right It rolled around and spun just like artoo should, yippy. The shakey first hours was because i discovery that I had a bad vex signal splitter, fortunately I bought 2 (the other for the eventual second artoo build). After I dicovered the problem I changed it out in a matter of minutes and YIPPY. I guess you can say I have an offical replica and functional artoo. Sorry I didnt take any pictures it all progressed so fast i forgot to take them, lol. I did the test run for about 20 minutes with no real drain on the batteries. :)

what’s left to do…?

23 10 2008

Well, 8 days remaing before my deadline and I’m actually almost done. All I have left to do is paint a bunch of small details and some minor touch-up painting. That should all be done by the weekend. Then I’ll finish up the electronics. All of the major wiring is also done. What’s left is the delivery of my new Sabertooth Dual 25A Motor Driver, which should arrive in a day or 2. Fingers cross everything will be rolling by the end of the weekend…. I hope ;)
