still working on those details….

Well, those vents and coin returns took a while but I finally finished them this weekend. In all i made:

2 front vents

2 rear vents

2 front coin returns

4 rear coin returns

Pictures arent’t needed, just look at the ones from my previous post. I also cut out holes for side vent panels as well as for the arms. Now I have the fun part of making those tubes for the leg mountings. I have a few ideas that others have tried so there shouldnt be any problem (famous last words). I will also strengthen the inner frame for the arm mounting. In case your wonderfing the frame is at present about 95% ready for painting, yippy. All i have to do is finish the skirt on the second artoo. Still havent desided whether I should keep the original R2-D9 (red/white) painting setup or the R2-Q5 (black/copper) setup. Which would standout the most if its going to have to compete with my other artoo, the R2-D2 (blue/white) colours? Once i have bought the paint I can’t change my mind, lol. I’ll keep you posted. its all in the details…

Besides the major frame and skins itself artoo has litterally hundreds of small details. I have many resin parts as you know but no coin returns nor front/rear side vents. So, I have started to make those from styrene sheets. I’ve also been trying to find larger sheets than evergreen’s but with no luck. This has been a much better option than my previous attempt with plexiglass. Below you can see the results, enjoy.

a question for all of my fellow builders…

Building this past week has been going great as you can imagine from my pictures. The body isnt quite done but its almost time to consider the painting. The more I have looked at other builders artoo’s I realise that I dont really have to paint both of them the same blue/white/silver colour. I looked through Jongsma’s wonderful droid renderings at Astomech Net and became inspired. I was originally going to make the second unit an R2-R9 (red/white/silver), but I began to consider a more dorker or just differnet astro droid. So, I thought I would ask the masses. What do you guys (and girls) think? These are the my choice that I like:
